Topic: Imperative Sentences

Objective/Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand imperative sentences and able to use them.

Tools/Materials:
  • whiteboard and markers,
  • textbook,
  • handouts/worksheets with exercises and examples

Teaching Method:
Activity 1: Warm-Up
Ask some questions to check students' previous knowledge about the topic.

Activity 2:
(a) Define the concept of imperative sentences using visuals and examples.
(b) An imperative sentence gives a command, makes a request, or offers an invitation.
Example: Command: "Close the door." (direct order)
Request: "Please pass me the pen." (polite request)
Invitation: "Come to the party!" (inviting someone)

Activity 3:
  • Write a few examples of imperative sentences on the board and ask students to identify if they are commands, requests, or invitations.
  • Walk around the classroom to provide assistance and answer any question.

Group Activity:
  • Divide the students into small groups. Give students a list of mixed sentence types. Ask them to underline or highlight the imperative sentences.
  • After each group share their details then provide correct sentences and explain the details.
Evaluation/Review: Review the sentences as a class and provide positive feedback on understanding, and gently guide improvement.
