Topic: Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Objective/Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand future perfect continuous tense and able to use them. 

Tools/Materials: 
  • whiteboard and markers, 
  • textbook, 
  • handouts with exercises and examples

Teaching Method:
Activity 1: Warm-Up
Ask some questions to check students' previous knowledge about the topic. 

Activity 2:
Present the concept of the future perfect continuous tense using visuals and examples. Explain that the future perfect continuous tense is used to describe an action in progress that will continue up to a point in the future.
Examples:
(a) She will have been working here for 10 years by next July.(Affirmative Sentence)
(b) I shall not have been living in Japan for 2 years. (Negative Sentence)
(c) Will you have been living in New York for a decade this December? (Interrogative Sentence)

Activity 3: 
  • Give students handouts with exercises focusing on forming sentences in the future perfect continuous tense. 
  • Include sentences where they have to identify the future perfect continuous tense and rewrite the remaining sentences in the future perfect continuous tense. 
  • Walk around the classroom to provide assistance and answer any questions.

Group Activity:
  • Divide the students into small groups (3-4 members). Ask each group to write 5 sentences using the future perfect continuous using the scenarios such as(e.g. You are a teacher. You are teaching in a university. You are living in a new country). e.g. using scenarios: I shall have been teaching in a university for  a decade. I shall have been living in Toronto for 5 years.
  • Instruct them to write a short story from now to 10 years in the future based on future based profession or hobbies.
  • Encourage verbal sharing, creativity and collaboration among students.
Evaluation/Review: Ask for volunteers to share their short stories with the class. Provide feedback on accuracy and fluency, and address any common errors.
