Topic: Exclamatory Sentences

Objective/Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand exclamatory sentences and able to use them.

Tools/Materials:
  • whiteboard and markers,
  • textbook,
  • handouts/worksheets with exercises and examples

Teaching Method:
Activity 1: Warm-Up
Ask some questions to check students' previous knowledge about the topic.

Activity 2:
(a) Define the concept of exclamatory sentences using visuals and examples.
(b) A sentence that shows strong feeling or emotion, often ending with an exclamation mark (!).
Example: (a) I can’t believe we won the game!
(b) That’s the best day ever!

Activity 3:
  • Write a few examples of exclamatory sentences on the board and ask students to identify if sentences express a feeling or emotion such as joy, surprise, anger, or excitement.
Example: (a) Positive Emotion: I’m so excited for the weekend!
    (b) Surprise: Wow, look at that rainbow!
    (c) Anger: Why did you do that?!
  • Walk around the classroom to provide assistance and answer any question.

Group Activity:
  • Divide the students into small groups. Give students a list of mixed sentences (declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory). Ask students to read through each sentence and decide whether it's exclamatory, declarative, or interrogative.
Example: (a) I can't wait for the holidays! (Exclamatory)
    (b) Do you want to play a game? (Interrogative)
    (c) She is my best friend. (Declarative)
  • After each group share their details then provide correct sentences and explain the details.
Evaluation/Review: Review the sentences as a class and provide positive feedback on understanding, and gently guide improvement.
