Non-Finite Verbs : Gerund

The gerund is formed by using 'ing' in the first form of the verb and it works as a noun. Like noun, a gerund can be 'Subject to a verb' (see example a), 'Object to a verb' (see example b), 'Object to a preposition' (see example c) and 'Complement to a verb' (see example d).

Gerund, verb की first form में 'ing' लगाने से बनता है तथा यह noun का काम करता है । Noun की तरह यह Subject to a verb (देखिए वाक्य a), Object to a verb (देखिए वाक्य b), Object to a preposition (देखिए वाक्य c), Complement to a verb (देखिए वाक्य d) हो सकता है ।

Examples :
(a) शराब पीना सेहत के लिए हानिकारक है ।
Drinking alcohol is harmful for health.
(b) वे विद्यार्थी हॉकी खेलना पसन्द करते हैं ।
Those students like playing hockey.
(c) वह गाने की शौकीन है ।
She is fond of singing.
(d) वे लोग शिकार करने में होशियार होते थे ।
Those people were skilled in hunting.
