For a very long time, I had a desire to visit gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib. Finally last year in the month of July my family planned the visit. Shri Hemkund Sahib is one of the famous pilgrimages of Sikhs. It is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
We parked our car in the Govindghat parking area near the river. The next day, we woke up early in the morning and covered the 9-kilometer trek from Govindghat to Govinddham by walking. After an overnight stay in Govinddham gurudwara premises, the next morning we covered a 6-kilometer stone-paved path to reach Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib. The beauty of the place cannot be explained in the words. It is like heaven on earth. There is a glacial lake near gurudwara and the lake is surrounded by seven mountain peaks. We took a holy bath in the lake and the lake water was chilling cold. Then we entered the main gurudwara building. After the darshan of Shri Guru Granth Sahib, we ate parshad with tea.
It was not allowed to stay overnight at Shri Hemkund Sahib, so after spending some hours there, we returned back to Govinddham and spent the night again in the gurudwara shelter. Gurudwara shelter had so many rooms with blankets and clean washrooms, showers, and food at langar hall. The next morning we traveled back to Govindghat and from there we left for home.
It was an extraordinary life experience for us and I will never forget the way we completed this visit. We returned back with so many beautiful pictures and memories.
