"One God who dwells in every one of God's creations and constitutes the eternal Truth." - Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Punjab is the state of India which has so many gurudwaras, but the most famous is the Golden Temple for its gold foil covered sanctum center, situated in the city of Amritsar. It is also called Darbār Sahib. It is the most important pilgrimage of Sikhs. It is visited by thousands of men and women from different countries every year.

I made a plan to see the golden temple with my college friends. We were staying in a nearby hotel. There is no restriction on sacred ground to enter this temple. To enter gurudwara, one needs to wear the proper attire with a head covering scarf and walk barefoot. We woke up early in the morning and took a bath in the gurudwara’s Sarovar. There was a long queue to enter the main gurudwara. It took 3 hours to reach inside and there we saw a very beautiful golden chandelier and interior had gold-encrusted walls. After darshan of the Guru Granth Sahib, we volunteered to help in the kitchen to wash utensils. Then we ate the delicious free simple vegetarian meal in the langar hall. Langar hall is a symbol of equality because everyone sits on the same floor together in rows and gets food without discrimination.

There are many factors that make this place unique and extraordinary. Thousands of devotees visit the holy shrine daily to worship. There is water surrounding the temple called holy water and people bath in it to purify their karma. The free community kitchen feeds thousands of people daily. Sri Harmandir Sahib has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It was inspiring for us to visit such a place because the place was full of positive vibes that also fulfilled us with that energy. The visit gave us great peace of mind and we returned the hotel cheerfully.
